I recently got word that our club team may being going to club nationals down in Georgia in the spring. And I'm pumped as hell. So, anyways, to the question, anyone else here swim? There has to be at least a few.

Swimming is fun, especially with blood.

Used to, but ever since I stopped being a lifeguard, I've stopped.

I swim whenever I fall into a body of water.

Because the alternative rather sucks.

We arent sure if we are going for sure yet. Its expensive as hell. We would need to go super fundraising mode to get to Georgia.

I wish you luck in your quest. Just remember, super fundraising mode is half the fun :)

Even if my team did go, I don't think I am fast enough to make the cut.

Yeah my times put me deep in the middle of nowhere. Except in the 50 Fly, where my times would get me in the mid-20's. Which is cool.

Hey! That's about what my 50 fly time is! I wish there was a way to high five through the internet.

Currently on the school team. Have a meet tomorrow. I'm not a competitive type, but I've improved in terms of speed since the first time I joined. I have a meet tomorrow.

Any tips on swimming butterfly stroke?

The biggest thing is the walls. A fast, smooth turn keeps important speed. After that a good strong kick off the walls is also super important since its the fastest you will be on that length. Other than that a strong second kick will do wonders for a beginning butterflyer. Also since it is butterfly, not dying during the race is pretty important.

I do! I swim for my high school during the winter and a club team during the summer. In fact, I got my ass kicked by an unhealthy amount of 400 IMs less than two hours ago.

The second biggest thing is the kick. If you have a bad kick, then it is much harder to move your arms.

I do.

...

As long as there are no walls to run into. Because I cannot into flip turn.

I may be delayed in responding, but I was once a hell of a swimmer.

event specialties:

100m Fly

200m IM

100m Back

random relay lol, normally medley (so they could get more fly out of me)

I turned down scholarship offers to Penn State and UMass to go to Michigan State (where in hind sight I probably should have walked on, we never had much of a swim team lol). I took up Judo instead and fought competitively for 3 years and was a TA for the Judo classes.

I turned down the offers so I could go for the better Academics at MSU. I had torn my miniscus doing breast stroke in high school and didn't want to make such a big choice knowing it would happen again (tore the same knee 2 more times while at MSU).

I was a coach for a YMCA club team about a year and a half ago, they were consistently at YMCA Nationals.

I hope you guys make it to Georgia and kick some ass! What's your events?

All about the kick! I always used to think big kick little kick big kick little kick all the way down the pool. Work on your breathing stamina to try and not pop your head up as much. At least go breath, no breath, breath, no breath.

Last year in high school I swam the 100yd Fly and the 50 Free. I got all state in the Medley Relay last year too which was great. And our team won the state title my Freshmen year. I swim a 56 in the 100 Fly, and a 23 in the 50 Free. I actually had a few people I swam with go to state and swim and they didnt do very well. For our team at least its the one place good swimmers go to die.

Hahaha, I believe I got myself to a 1:10 or so 100M Fly my senior year, after the knee injury surprisingly and I got myself in 100 Free down to a 53 or so. I did Meters though not yards so all my times look slower haha.

My swim team hadn't been to States since the 80's (I was in High School from 01-04). My senior Captain season we broke the streak and went. We didn't win much, but we went which was a huge deal for the team.
